Background

Owner and Instructor Tina Johnson lives in Champaign, IL with her husband. They have one adult daughter who is an acrobat and aerialist in Tennessee.  

 

Tina grew up in Urbana and attended Illinois State University, where she received a master’s degree in Communications and an undergraduate degree is in Public Relations. Tina worked in human resources for over 20 years. For the past 6 years she was a corporate social responsibility manager with responsibility for North and Latin America. Her amazing career included overseeing events, budgets, plans and working with more than 45 people to help at-risk children. She also worked to enhance inclusion in the communities we call home.  Tina's greatest joy as a human resource professional was helping people become better versions of themselves. Tina serves on the board of The Reading Group.

 

In and around the water

Tina swam competitively in high school and college. Since then, she has been involved in helping people learn to swim whether she was instructing or coaching. Tina is a certified ISR instructor as well a level three US Masters swim coach (USAM) and has actively coached adult swimmers of all abilities and competition levels for more than 8 years. She also has experience coaching age group swimmers ages 3 to 18 years old.

"My greatest joy comes from helping people learn to respect and appreciate the water and ultimately be life-long swimmers," says Tina. "This is truly my passion for life."
